A paramedic who lost an eye when a brick was thrown at his ambulance has won his fight for extra compensation. Nick Horobin, 36, from Uttoxeter, was badly injured when the vehicle overturned in Derbyshire in 2001. He was awarded £100,000 at an industrial tribunal hearing in Leicester. Mr Horobin was originally offered £40,000, which was then increased to £90,000, but said he wanted more to allow him to retrain as a nurse. Mr Horobin - who had to have part of his face rebuilt after the accident - had campaigned for a larger settlement since the incident and had sent a petition to Downing Street over the issue. He lost his right eye and suffered serious head injuries when his East Midlands Ambulance Service vehicle overturned after it was attacked on the A52 at Shirley Hollow in September 2001.
