Youths raid ambulance and threaten crew
18/02/2009
MEDICAL equipment including drugs, needles and a machine used to administer shocks to heart patients were stolen in a raid on an ambulance.
Paramedics were attending an emergency call on Oxmarsh Lane, New Holland, when a gang of youths approached them and began making threats.
The fast response vehicle, from the East Midlands Ambulance Service, was called to the address around midnight on Saturday.
Once the ambulance crew was inside the house one of the youths got into their vehicle and grabbed a drugs bag - containing medication, needles and syringes - and a defibrillator.
A spokesman for the ambulance service said: "We are appalled someone stole life-saving medical equipment from our emergency vehicle while the crew was inside a patient's house giving treatment.
The drugs bag was recovered, but the defibrillator is missing. If this piece of equipment is misused, it could result in death."
Police have urged anyone with information about the incident or the whereabouts of the stolen medical equipment or the youths responsible to contact them on 0845 60 60 222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
